Ian Thorpe, an Australian swimmer, has been living with Daniel Mendes, a Brazilian swimmer. Thorpe and Mendes were introduced by Thorpe’s former swim coach. Thorpe and Mendes were training partners before they became friends. Thorpe and Mendes have spent holidays with their families.The source said Ian Thorpe & Daniel Mendes have been staying together for the past few years.

Australian TV news and national and state newspapers are today leading with the story that Ian Thrope denies he is gay.
Thrope is making very strong deniles. Not the first time he has strongly denied being gay or being in a gay relationship. The issue surfaces every few months. Where there is smoke - there is fire???
We Aussies really do not care either way, if he is gay it would be fairer on boyfriend just to say yes, if he is straight we are all invading his privacy.
Personally, I hope Ian can relate to the person - male or female, the individual and not feel a label is necessary, or that he has to be one or the other.
The somewhat vapid (is there any other way?) US gossip blogs, seem to be more interested in how tubby he's gotten.
I hope he's happy and having fun!
Leave the guy alone! IF he is gay it is no business of anyone but him until he decides to come out. He has been very supportive of gay issues and did not mind that he was called a gay icon during his swimming years. This must be getting thin given the tacky article by that Gay shock journo in the US who to be blunt has NO credibility.
