The Show Must Go On

Empty spaces - what are we waiting for
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score
On and on
Does anybody know what we are looking for

Another hero another mindless crime
Behind the curtain in the pantomime
Hold the line
Does anybody want to take it anymore

The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on

Whatever happens I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache another failed romance
On and on
Does anybody know what we are living for
I guess I'm learning
I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free

The show must go on
The show must go on - yeah
Ooh inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
Yeah oh oh oh

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends

The show must go on - yeah
The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On with the show

I'll top the bill
I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the
On with the show

The show must go on

My Father's Death

(Dad's Army photo - age 19)
On Sunday June 25th 2006, my father passed away. Ironically, it was during Toronto Pride celebrations. As a million people celebrated, I rushed home from Toronto to be with my mother.

I have been with my family over the last few days making all the arrangements and taking care of the details. Only now have I had a chance to take a step back and try to understand what has happened to me & my mother.

I am not sure that I have fully grasped what has happened. It will take time for me to come to terms with his lose.

My father had been ill for sometime but his death is still a shock. I had seen him 48 hours earlier and my mother had been with him the afternoon before his passing away. He seemed to be doing well, at least no worst.

He is finally at peace.
He would have been 81 in September.

During the last few days I have been moved with all the well wishes, condolences, prayers, e-mails, cards, phone calls and offers to help.

I was overwhelmed by the show of support from my friends who attended the visitation and also the church service. It gave me new strength seeing them all there and all I could think of was how lucky I am to have such a great group of friends.

They are more than friends to me – they are my family.

Kylie Minogue to Resume Australian Tour

Pop star Kylie Minogue will complete the world tour she called off a year ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer with a series of concerts in Australia later this year, her Australian tour manager said Thursday.

The shock diagnosis interrupted the Australian-born star's biggest global tour, and her return to the stage after undergoing cancer treatment has been highly anticipated in her home country and her longtime base in London.

"She's definitely through the worst of everything, she's so determined and she can't wait to see you all," Gudinski said. "Obviously she's still got a few mountains to climb, but we're very, very confident that the tour will be going ahead in November."

Kylie, a 2004 Grammy award winner, had completed dates on her "The Showgirl Tour" in Europe and was heading to Australia for homecoming concerts when she was diagnosed with cancer in May last year.

She underwent surgery to remove a lump from her breast and is reportedly still undergoing cancer treatment.

Gudinski said the Nov. 11-Dec. 17 concert series in Australia's state capitals would be renamed the "Showgirl Homecoming" tour and that Kylie's work commitments would be lighter because of her illness.

"We're going to take as much pressure as we can," off her, he said.

Bryan Singer to Direct Harvey Milk Movie

Bryan Singer, gay director of the upcoming Superman Returns, is set to direct the Harvey Milk biopic The Mayor of Castro Street, based on the 1982 biography by Randy Shilts.

Milk was the first openly gay city supervisor of San Francisco. He and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated in 1978 by another supervisor Dan White, who was sentenced to only seven years in prison.

Outrage following the verdict lead to widespread rioting in San Francisco and police retaliation. His death unified the LGBT community.

Bryan Singer told Variety, "Harvey created a concept and pride for a disenfranchised group at a point in history when the world was in upheaval, and he paid the highest price for it."

"(Milk's) an extraordinary character, as a person in history. We're developing a story based on him that will probably center around the latter period of his life, leading up to his assassination."

"He is one of the great role models of our contemporary society that, unfortunately, a lot of people don't know about."

Pentagon Hates Fags - That's Mental

A Pentagon document classifying homosexuality as a mental disorder has surfaced, decades after mental health experts said that the idea is ridiculous.

The document outlines discharge policies for service members, allowing discharge due to physical disabilities, along with mental disorders such as mental retardation, personality disorders and... homosexuality.

Critics said that this typifies the Pentagon's failing policies on gays and lesbians, creating a culture within the military that allows gay and lesbian troops to be treated as second-class citizens.

And while we're on the topic, what the freak is up with that whole "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy? How dare they! The US government feels that it is okay to send gay and lesbian troops to fight (and die) for their country, while at the same time not allow them the basic right to live openly.

Disgusting.

Wayne Rooney Nike Image Sparks Outrage ~ Well That Didn't Take Long!

Drenched in blood-red paint and screaming a war-cry, this chilling image of Wayne Rooney was last night condemned as 'offensive', 'exploitative' and 'tacky' by MPs and church groups.

He may yet turn out to be the saviour of England's World Cup campaign, but the Christ-like pose of the striker in a new Nike campaign yesterday provoked fierce condemnation.

Five people complained to the Advertising Standards Authority watchdog on religious grounds within hours of the advert being posted.

Its other interpretation as a battle cry from the dark ages or throwback to the Crusades was equally unfortunate as the poster's launch coincided with the first outbreak of serious violence involving England's army of fans in Germany on Monday night.

Labour MP Stephen Pound said the advert was 'truly horrible.'

'This is such a horrible image and is so horribly war-like that it can only be described as Nike being crass, offensive and insensitive as they try to hitch poor old Rooney to their commercial band-wagon.'

The MP for Ealing North added: 'He should go out and wear Adidas instead. It's offensive on so many different levels and extremely nasty.

'Wayne's a good Catholic boy and I think the obvious crucifixion nuance is one part of it, but the aggressive nature of the pose is something we could do without.

Bayer Gets FDA Approval for New HIV Test

Company says labs can increase testing with greater accuracy
NEW YORK (AP) Jun 21, 12:33 PM

Drug developer Bayer AG said Wednesday its healthcare diagnostics division received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for a new automated HIV test that can detect all known types of the infection.

The test, called the EHIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Enhanced, was approved for use on Bayer's ADVIA Centaur Immunoassay System. EHIV is an in vitro diagnostic test that looks for antibodies in human serum and plasma to HIV 1, HIV 2 and a subtype of HIV 1. The test is automated, allowing laboratories to increase testing with more accurate results, Bayer said in a statement.

The system is made and sold by Bayer Diagnostics for Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.

American depositary shares of Germany-based Bayer rose 68 cents to $41.61 during morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Shares of Johnson & Johnson added 16 cents to $61.69 in recent trading on the NYSE

Michael Owen's World Cup is Pretty Much Oover

The England striker was carried from the field in the second minute of Tuesday's World Cup match against Sweden with what looked like a serious knee injury. He'll have a scan on Wednesday, but England isn't expecting him to play any more in his third World Cup.

Owen's right knee buckled beneath him just after he had played a pass. He rolled a yard so he was off the pitch, and lay on the sideline clutching his leg while play continued. Owen then was treated by doctors and strapped to a stretcher and taken away.

HAMILTON, CANADA: Gay Pride Marchers Ridiculed by Football Fans.

Hamilton's gay and lesbian community has been reminded by a few intolerant soccer fans why they must support each other with an annual Pride parade and festival.

This year's parade on Saturday ran into a group of Portuguese men rejoicing over their old country's World Soccer Championship win, but who were not very receptive to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) community celebrating its own victories as the parade made its way up ethnic James Street North.

While the jubilant parade participants paused for a moment of silence in front of Christ Church Cathedral to commemorate people who have died of AIDS, the soccer fans taunted them and called them derogatory names in Portuguese, observers said.

Lyla Miklos, spokesperson for Hamilton Pride Festival Inc., said some of the men were poking parade participants with their flagpoles before police stepped in to defuse the situation, "before it got stupid."

"That was a real sad reflection of things because the businesses along James were very supportive (of gay Pride)," she said.
