Gay Games VIII in Cologne Begin
Around 10,000 gay and lesbian athletes from around the globe are expected to descend on the western German city of Cologne tomorrow to participate in the international Gay Games.Entrants from more than 70 countries are due to take part in an eclectic mix of events including football, transgender ballroom dancing and cheerleading. A cultural programme includes art exhibitions, choir concerts and film screenings.
Some interesting statistics about the games from OutSports.com:
■68% of the participants are male.
■Germany is the most-represented, counting for 31%. The U.S. was second with 23%.
■Some countries with more than one participant that might surprise you: El Salvador, Ghana, Liberia, Peru, Suriname, United Arab Emirates.
■Over 11% of the participants are registered for soccer. 12% will participate in one of the aquatics sports at the pool. Volleyball and tennis were next.
■Most-represented city: London, then Berlin.

Gay Olympic Skater Credits Vancouver for Outing
A Kiwi speedskater, the first Olympian to come out after competing in the 2010 Games in Vancouver, credits the city and Whistler’s Pride House for helping in his decision.Growing up, Blake Skjellerup couldn’t see a way to be gay and in competitive sports.
“Competing in the Olympics and being in such an open environment like Vancouver made me realize that all those prejudgments I had were all wrong,” he said.(source)

Thousands of Israelis marched calmly Thursday in Jerusalem's longest gay pride parade despite opposition from anti-gay demonstrators.The subdued Jerusalem march from the center of town to the parliament building contrasted with flamboyant gay pride parades elsewhere in the world. Cheyenne Jackson has joined the cast of Glee!
The 35-year-old actor, who’s also lined up gigs on Curb Your Enthusiasm and 30 Rock, will play the new coach for Vocal Adrenaline, according to EW.
TV Guide adds that Patrick Gallagher will not continue his role as football coach Ken Tanaka next season. He’ll be replaced by McKinley High’s new female football coach, Shannon Beiste (played by Dot Jones).

Chord Overstreet Joins 'Glee' Cast : Will He Be Gay?
Chord Overstreet will have a recurring role in the second season of Fox’s “Glee.”Overstreet makes his debut in the Sept. 21 season-premiere episode of the hit series. He’ll play Sam, a high school athlete who starts off as quarterback Finn’s protege but eventually becomes his competition. There is also a rumour that he will become Kurt's new boyfriend.
Ryan Murphy explained that he was completing a nationwide search for the perfect boyfriend for Kurt. Overstreet was cast after a wide talent search. (source)
