Obama: US Combat in Iraq to End by Aug. 31, 2010

Obama delivers an address to Marines and other military personnel at the largest Marine base on the East Coast on February 27, 2009 in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

President Barack Obama drew a firm finish line in the Iraq war Friday, six years after the invasion he opposed and six weeks into his presidency. Obama said he will withdraw combat forces within 18 months. "Let me say this as plainly as I can," he said. "By August 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end."

Yet in the same speech before Marines and military leadership, he said the vast majority of those involved in the pullout will not leave this year. Obama also said tens of thousands of U.S. personnel will remain behind to train and advise Iraqis.

"We have forged hard-earned progress, we are leaving Iraq to its people, and we have begun the work of ending this war," he said.(

ACAPULCO's Big Gay Comeback

Any gay traveler worth his or her weight in boarding passes already knows about Acapulco’s star-studded history.

This city on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, after all, was one of the world’s first jet-set resort destinations, attracting the likes of Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley, and Lana Turner, to name a few.

In recent years, however, the city took a lower profile when faced with competition from Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Los Cabos.

With a new infusion of luxury accommodations, as well as a growing gay scene, Acapulco is once again showing up on the itinerary of gay globetrotters.(keep reading)

Dumping Michael Phelps Backfires on Kellogg

When Kellogg announced it would not renew its endorsement contract with Olympic medalist Michael Phelps after a photo of the athelete smoking pot surfaced, it may have cost the food company its sterling reputation, reports company reputation index Vanno.

Out of the 5,600 company reputations Vanno monitors, Kellogg ranked ninth before it booted Phelps. Now it's ranked 83. Not even an industry-wide peanut scare inflicted as much damage on the food company's reputation.

Sean Penn Wins Best Actor Oscar for "Milk"

Sean Penn won the best actor Oscar on Sunday for his portrayal of slain San Francisco gay rights activist Harvey Milk in the movie "Milk."

Penn, 48, picked up the second Oscar of his career, the first being his 2004 win for his lead role as a grieving father in "Mystic River."

"I did not expect this and I wanted to be very clear that I know how hard I make it to appreciate me," Penn said as he accepted the award.

His portrayal of an openly gay politician was a timely one -- with "Milk" coming out shortly after California's same-sex couples lost their right to marry in a voter referendum.

Penn, who is not gay and has a tough guy image dating back to his early career scrapes with the paparazzi, convincingly evoked the legendary charm of Milk, who was shot to death in 1978 at San Francisco City Hall.(
