Dreams Dashed - Jared Leto Joked About Being Gay

Actor Jared Leto has laughed off reports that he is gay, insisting his comments to a reporter last week were meant as a joke.

The Requiem For A Dream star gave an online interview last Friday, where he claimed he was "gay as a goose".

The America On Line reporter seemed unsure if Leto was kidding or not and revised the question.

Leto them compared himself to rock musician Morrissey, another singer known for his vagueness about his sexuality.

The star was engaged to Cameron Diaz and has also been linked with Lindsay Lohan and Scarlett Johansson.

His publicist, Robin Baum, has dismissed the flurry of media reports that followed his interview insisting: "Jared was kidding."

Qantas Recognises Gay Marriage

A GAY employee has won a long-running dispute with Qantas to recognise his same-sex marriage in Canada.
Qantas had refused to update the staff member's marital status on his employee records because the union was not between a man and a woman.

But the airline backed down after it received an email from former Chief Justice of the Family Court, Alastair Nicholson, endorsing the validity of the marriage.

In March 2005, Qantas wrote to the employee stating: "We are unable to approve your marital status in eQHR (employee records) as married because Australian law does not recognise same-sex marriages."

The employee referred the matter to Mr Nicholson who lent his support in an email that was later forwarded to Qantas.

"There is nothing to stop a private employer permitting your husband to be described as your spouse on its documentation and I can see no legal impediment to it doing so," Mr Nicholson said in the email.

"Indeed it would, in my view, be an appropriate step for it to take."

Five days ago, Qantas executive general manager of people, Kevin Brown, responded to the employee: "Qantas is willing to recognise you ... as married and will record your status as married. Qantas will treat you and your family in the same manner as it treats all married staff."

The employee's records were updated once Qantas sighted his Canadian marriage certificate.

Australian Marriage Equality (AME) congratulated Qantas for changing its policy on gay marriage.

"Many employers already, no doubt, recognise their employee's same-sex marriages", AME national secretary Glenn Limond said.

"But this policy change is worth noting. Qantas is not only a very large employer, with over 30,000 staff, but is also an Australian icon".

Moscow Mayor Loves Gay Bashing

Moscow defends banning gay activist parade
Moscow’s influential mayor said on Tuesday the city banned gay activists from holding a parade because it is morally cleaner than the West, which is caught up in “mad licentiousness”.

The gay activists tried to hold their protest against homophobia and discrimination at the weekend despite the ban, but were detained by police, abused by militant Christians and attacked by neo-fascists.

They had wanted to lay flowers at the grave of the unknown warrior, a monument to those who died defeating Nazi Germany, but police blocked their path.
Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said such an action would have been a desecration of the sacred monument, and rejected Western criticism of his ban as prejudiced and homophobic.
“Our way of life, our morals and our tradition -- our morals are cleaner in all ways. The West has something to learn from us and should not race along in this mad licentiousness,” he told Moscow radio, according to local news agencies.
“We may have a democratic country, but we live in an organized country and an organized city.”
The protest on Saturday, which was intended as a Gay Pride solidarity event as have become common in Western capitals, degenerated into a scrum with women hurling eggs and fruit at the activists, while shouting “Moscow is not Sodom”.
Riot police arrested several dozen neo-fascist skinheads who wanted to break up the protest.

Guillermo Vilas Bitter About Losing Record to Rafael Nadal

Spain's Rafael Nadal, left, smiles after winning a first round match against Sweden's Robin Soderling and breaking the record of 53 consecutive wins on clay, held by Argentina's Guillermo Villas in 1977, seen at right, during the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris, Monday May 29, 2006.

Guillermo Vilas was unimpressed by Rafael Nadal's winning streak on clay even though the Spaniard broke the Argentine's record with a 6-2 7-5 6-1 victory over Robin Soderling in the first round of the French Open on Monday

The 19-year-old Nadal chalked up an unprecedented 54th consecutive claycourt win in the men's game to surpass Vilas's previous record of 53 set in 1977.

"First of all, Nadal's performance is spanning over two years, which is not the same," the 53-year-old Vilas told Reuters on Monday before Nadal's match.

"Then, I have the feeling he added easy tournaments on his schedule just for that purpose."

On Monday, Vilas was on hand to present Nadal a trophy on centre court to commemorate the feat.

"They never gave me any trophy at the time," Vilas quipped.

The Argentine also pointed out that he still owned two other records that Nadal "would never beat."

"I also have won 46 matches in succession on any surface and I have won 14 tournaments in the same year," he said.

"The record of 46 consecutive wins will not be beaten soon."

Vilas had his 1977 run ended in the Aix-en-Provence tournament semi-finals by Ilie Nastase.

"I did not lose to a player but against a racket," he said, referring to the double-strung racket the Romanian was using at the time.

"I could not play him. When I was 6-1 7-5 down, I threw in the sponge," said Vilas, who had won the Tehran, Bogota, Santiago and Buenos Aires tournaments that year.

City of Jerusalem Ordered to Fund Gay Pride

The Jerusalem District Court on Monday ordered the Jerusalem Municipality to fund the Gay Pride Parade held by The Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance.

Judge Judith Tsur accepted a petition submitted by the Open House and ordered the municipality to pay NIS 350,000 as part of the funding for the cultural and social activities held by the establishment in the years 2003-2005.

The Open House's petition demanded that the municipality include the gay rights establishment on the list of non-profit organizations to which the municipality allocates funding.

According to the Open House, which serves the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in Jerusalem the municipality discriminates against it, and does not follow set criteria for financial administration.

The Open House has filed several lawsuits against the municipality, run by ultra-Orthodox mayor Uri Lupolianski. The lawsuits protest the city's refusal to fund the establishment's ongoing activities and its attempts to prevent the Gay Pride Parade from taking place.

The Open House has been acting as a non-profit organization since 1997 for the promotion and encouragement of social pluralism and tolerance in Jerusalem. It also works for the integration of the gay-lesbian community into the city's social fabric.

New York Mayor In Favor of Gay Marrage

Mayor Bloomberg landed another left on the right yesterday, coming out strongly in favor of gay marriage - and vowing the city will perform same-sex wedding ceremonies, if allowed.
The Republican mayor used his weekly Sunday radio address on Memorial Day weekend to say he is "firmly opposed" to any constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage.

President Bush and other prominent Republicans endorse the Federal Marriage Amendment, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman. The measure is set for a Senate vote next month.

"The U.S. Constitution should be something that unites, rather than divides Americans," said Bloomberg, a life-long Democrat who joined the GOP to run for mayor in 2001.

"I do not believe that government should be in the business of telling people who they can and can't marry," he added during the address on 1010 WINS.

The mayor took pains to give his comments local context, referring to a lawsuit due before the state Court of Appeals tomorrow that focuses on five same-sex couples seeking marriage licenses in New York City.

Is Jared Leto coming out?

Is actor and musician Jared Leto coming out? In an online interview last week, the 34-year-old star said: “I’ll give you an exclusive…I’m gay.”

Asked if he was serious, Leto replied: “As a goose.” It’s not the first time the actor, who also heads rock band 30 Seconds To Mars, has brought up his sexuality.

In an interview with Out magazine in 2004, Leto told writer Degen Pener: “I know I’m gay. I must be gay.”

In the Oliver Stone flick Alexander, Leto played Colin Farrell’s lover – but there were no sex scenes between the two actors. “If there had been,” Leto said, “it would be the best man-on-man sex you’ve ever seen.”

Leonardo da Vinci - 101- Vitruvian Man

The Vitruvian Man is a famous drawing with accompanying notes by Leonardo da Vinci made around the year 1492 in one of his journals.

It depicts a naked male figure in two superimposed positions with his arms and legs apart and simultaneously inscribed in a circle and square. The drawing and text are sometimes called the Canon of Proportions or, less often, Proportions of Man. It is on display in the Gallerie dell' Accademia in
Venice, Italy.

Vitruvius, the architect, says in his work on architecture that the measurements of the human body are as follows that is that 4 fingers made 1 palm, and 4 palms make 1 foot, 6 palms make 1 cubit; 4 cubits make a man's height.

And 4 cubits make one pace and 24 palms make a man. The length of a man’s outspread arms is equal to his height. From the roots of his hair to the bottom of his chin is the tenth of a man’s height; from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head is one eighth of his height; from the top of the breast to the roots of the hair will be the seventh part of the whole man.

From the nipples to the top of the head will be the fourth part of man. The greatest width of the shoulders contains in itself the fourth part of man.

From the elbow to the tip of the hand will be the fifth part of a man; and from the elbow to the angle of the armpit will be the eighth part of man.

The whole hand will be the tenth part of the man. The distance from the bottom of the chin to the nose and from the roots of the hair to the eyebrows is, in each case the same, and like the ear, a third of the face.
