Mark Wahlberg Got 'Creeped Out' by Brokeback Mountain Role

Mark Wahlberg is glad filmmaker Ang Lee passed over him when he cast Brokeback Mountain, because the Oscar nominee was "a little creeped out" at the prospect of having to play a gay cowboy.

The Departed star reveals he and pal Joaquin Phoenix were originally considered for the roles of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist in the 2005 film - but both felt uncomfortable about sex act scenes in a tent.

Wahlberg explains, "I met with Ang Lee on that movie, I read 15 pages of the script and got a little creeped out. It was very graphic, descriptive - the spitting on the hand, getting ready to do the thing.

"I told Ang Lee, 'I like you, you're a talented guy, if you want to talk about it more...' Thankfully, he didn't."

The parts eventually went to Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger and, though Wahlberg feels it's a film he must see, he has yet to watch Brokeback Mountain.

He adds, "I didn't rush to see Brokeback, it's just not my deal... Obviously, it was done in taste - look how it was received."

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Revisited by US Congress

The first U.S. Marine seriously wounded in Iraq, Staff Sgt. Eric Alva, lost his leg when he stepped on a land mine, but today he and his prosthetic leg will march right into one of the most contentious battles in American politics.

The Battle: Alva will stand with Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass., as a bipartisan group of Congress members introduces legislation to overturn the ban on openly gay and lesbian troops serving in the military.

Alva says that losing his leg forced him out of the closet.

Alva hopes that he can change minds by arguing the ban is simply unfair to gays and lesbian service members who are already serving their nation honorably, not to mention Americans who want to serve.

He and his partner will never be able to live under the same rules and regulations applied to a husband and wife, for instance.

The Mission: It was a logistical convoy moving through the desert at night, lights out, night-vision goggles on.

The sand was so kicked up it was nearly impossible for Alva to even keep track of the vehicle in front of him.

At one of three stops along the way, Alva, who hadn't eaten for a full day, was heating up an MRE when he went to get something out of his Humvee.

"I took maybe a step or two," Alva said, "and that is when the explosion went off."

It was a land mine.

The Law: "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Which is not to say that Alva didn't "tell" anyone.

"I told tons of people," he said, with a laugh. "A lot of my friends, my buddies, my closest Marines, people I had served in combat with. Straight guys, married, with children and everything, three of them which I have become their sons' godfather now. Everybody was just respectful and was just like ordinary. 'That's it? That's your big news?'"

Alva says that while anti-gay language wasn't exactly unheard of in the Marines, generally he thinks troops are ready for gays and lesbians to serve openly.

"Being on the front lines and serving with the people who even actually knew that I was gay, you know, that was never a factor. We were there to do a job. We were [there] to do a mission. I don't think people would have a hard time with it because they know that the person right next to them is going to be there to protect them, in our terms, 'have their back.'"

Djimon : Calvin Newest Underwear Model

Djimon Hounsou and Mark Wahlberg have something in common. Not only were the two actors nominated for best supporting actor at the Oscars, but Hounsou is now a Calvin Klein model.

Following the footsteps of Wahlberg's modeling career, the African actor is posing in just his Calvin's for the Fall 2007 line.

The "Blood Diamond" star said, "As a child growing up in Africa, I could have never dreamed that I would be where I am today. Representing such an iconic American brand like Calvin Klein Underwear signifies to me that I have been accepted. This carries more meaning for me than you can imagine. Dreams really do come true."

Hounsou's unique looks and toned physic are what helped seal the deal for the designer brand.

Tom Murry, President and Chief Operating Officer of Calvin Klein, Inc, said, "Djimon's look and style complement his accomplished acting career and make him uniquely suited to represent the Calvin Klein Underwear brand, and specifically the introduction of Calvin Klein Steel."

The star of films such as "The Island" and "Amistad" began his career as a model in Europe. Hounsou made a name for himself in the fashion industry after getting his big break from Thierry Mugler in Paris.

Bob Mazzoli, Chief Creative Officer of Calvin Klein Underwear, noted that the star is joining the company on its 25th anniversary. He said, "We are energized by the prospect of working with a talent such as Djimon Hounsou. Together we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Calvin Klein Underwear and yet another ground-breaking international product launch, Calvin Klein Steel, in Fall 2007."
