World AIDS Day Saturday December 1

Saturday is World AIDS Day, observed on December 1 each year for the past 19 years in many countries worldwide. Initiated by UNAIDS, World AIDS Day aims to raise awareness of the ongoing pandemic that has killed more than 25 million people since the early 1980s. Almost 40 million people worldwide are HIV positive.

Despite increases in the availability of antiretroviral medications 3.5 millions people died of AIDS in 2005, half a million of those, children.

Despite these grim realities, there are other sides to World AIDS Day. While we remember loved ones lost to the disease and those around the world who are currently terribly sick, we also acknowledge the many in our community living with HIV and also, the many positive stories of long-lasting health and lives lived to the fullest, despite HIV infection. Also, we may reflect on the tireless efforts of innumerable community groups, NGOs and individuals who've worked for decades to help raise money, awareness and empathy for those living with HIV.

None of us can afford to be blase about HIV/AIDS, and that includes turning away from our friends and family living with HIV.

For your reference, the official site for World AIDS Day Australia offers this sobering information:

By 31 December 2006, there were 26 267 diagnoses of HIV infection in Australia. There were 10 125 diagnoses of AIDS and 6 723 deaths following AIDS had occurred. The annual number of new HIV diagnoses in Australia rose from 763 cases in 2000 to 998 in 2006, an increase of 31%.

Gay Serial Killer Arrested In France

A 68-year-old man has been arrested by French police on suspicion of murdering 18 people, most of them homosexuals, between 1980 and 2002, officials say.
The suspect, Nicolas Panard, is alleged to have killed 11 people in the Alsace region, four others in neighbouring Franche-Comte, and three near Paris.

Mr Panard was detained on Tuesday in the eastern Alsace city of Mulhouse.

His alleged accomplice, Slim Fezzani, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for a separate murder.

Several other people are also wanted in connection with the case.

The officer also discovered several common features in the murders, including that the victims had all been killed by blows to the head followed by multiple knife wounds, it added. Each time the victims' bodies were found partly naked, but with their faces covered.

Judges had in the past dismissed several of the murder cases due to a lack of evidence.

Mr Panard, who already has a criminal record for burglary, is said to have long frequented the gay scene and worked as a female impersonator in the eastern France and Germany, the paper reported.

During the 1980s, there was a spate of unsolved murders of homosexuals across the border from Mulhouse in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.(

At the Tennis Masters Cup in China in mid-November, Gasquet made a point of asserting his heterosexuality once again (Complete interview here):

Q. Now your matches are finished. Do you still have any plan to go around the city maybe with your uncle or your girlfriend?

RICHARD GASQUET: My uncle? No. My girlfriend, no. I have no girlfriend, so I will try to find one, one Chinese girl. Why not? Why not? I lost 6-1, 6-1. It will be very hard for me tonight. I’m ready to lose, you know.

Q. Who is the girl watching your match with your uncle?

RICHARD GASQUET: Not my girl. I don’t know. Not my girl, for sure. No, no, no, I have just friends. Men friends, but I’m not gay.

Nothing to See Here People ~ Male Escort Denies Involvement with Trent Lott

A San Antonio-based gay male escort categorically denied Monday that outgoing GOP Sen. Trent Lott had ever procured his services, putting to bed one of the more stunning rumors to emerge following Lott's announcement earlier in the day that he was leaving Congress.

The charge was first published by the Washington DC blog Big Head DC, which claimed to have emails where the escort, Benjamin Nicholas, allegedly playing coy, declined to go on the record because "Trent is going through his fair share of scrutiny right now and I don't want to add to it."

But in an email message, Nicholas himself said the item was false.

"There's nothing to be said, as Lott and I have no connection whatsoever," Nicholas wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. "How these 'quotes' have been fabricated are beyond me. The Senator is someone I have had no personal dealings with, ever."

In a subsequent posting on his own Web site, Nicholas wrote, "I have not, nor have I ever seen or had contact with Senator Trent Lott. It's as simple as that. It never happened."

Big Head DC's founder, Rob Capriccioso, is no stranger to allegations of sloppy sleuthing.

Earlier this month, Radar Magazine dropped Capriccioso as a freelancer after he reported that veteran newsman Sam Donaldson's phone number was in the records of infamous DC Madam Deborah Jean Palfrey.(

Democratic Wars : Babs VS Oprah

As the announcement of Oprah Winfrey stumping for White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) continues to dominate political chatter, the campaign of chief rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) rolled out Tuesday the endorsement of megastar Barbra Streisand.

Streisand is being used to reclaim the political news cycle---there's been a lot of pondering going on in print and cable over the value of celebrity endorsements in general and Winfrey in particular.

The announcement did not say if Streisand, a longtime Democratic activist who has been close to Bill and Hill for years--would go on the stump for Clinton. Unlike Winfrey, a beloved figure who until now has stayed away from politics in order to not devalue her brand, Streisand is the star Repubublicans love to brand as a left-winger. (

Works for me!
Later in the show Kevin professes his love for Scotty. Scotty looks stunned - Maybe he couldn't believe what Kevin was saying or it might have been the lobster not sitting so well.
So we'll see how long this lasts.
