Protein Discovered That Could Halt HIV Spread
Scientists have discovered an HIV Aids treatment that may help sufferers avoid the problem of drug resistance.Scientists have found that the virus can be significantly weakened by inactivating a key human protein called ITK.
Current treatments target the proteins in the HIV virus. This approach weakens the virus but in time it will mutate and resist the drugs that the sufferer is taking.
To combat this doctors will change the combination of the drugs but in time the virus will become resistant to those too. In addition to this, the changing of combinations can bring on serious side effects.
The new approach targets a protein produced by human cells rather than HIV, and is therefore impervious to the virus's mutations. (keep reading)

Gale Harold Joins Depserate Housewives
Another actor is about to stir up some drama in Wisteria Lane. Gale Harold, who rose to fame for his portrayal of Brian Kinney on the Showtime TV series Queer as Folk, has booked a potentially recurring role on ABC's Desperate Housewives.
Not much has been confirmed about Harold's Desperate Housewives storyline, though TV Guide reveals that he will be playing a quick-witted, charming and buttoned-down suburbanite. Fans can expect the 38-year-old actor to grace the dramedy in the May 18 finale, though Harold's character is expected to return next season in a recurring capacity. (source)

This year, we once again decided to explore how the public responds to public displays of affection -- but this time, our couples were gay.
ABC News asked two couples, Kaolin and James, and Ashby and Leslie, to sit on park benches in Verona, N.J., and then in Birmingham, Ala., to see if there were any differences in reaction among passersby in the two regions of the country. Although all four individuals were actors, showing their love and affection for each other was far from acting. Kaolin and James have been in a committed relationship for two years, while Ashby and Leslie are a married couple who have been together for eight years. (ABC News)
Toronto Transit Back on Track
The doors to Toronto subway stations were unlocked and streetcars rolled along their tracks as the city's public transit system slowly resumed service Sunday, after Ontario MPPs ordered striking workers back on the job.The back-to-work legislation was approved unanimously after less than 30 minutes of debate. The bill was given royal assent and officially approved by 2:45 p.m.

Ian Thorpe's Olympic Flame Out
Ian Thorpe laughed as the flame in the cauldron sputtered and died before being relit.
Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe had to deal with a degree of embarrassment after running the final leg of the torch relay in Canberra today. The cauldron lit by Thorpe with the torch went out almost as soon as it ignited.
A few minutes of awkwardness ensued as technicians struggled to relight the cauldron.
It was a minor error to end a torch relay of minor incidents.
