Diana 10 Years Later - more Flowers

One of the 10 golden dandelions which make up Field of Flowers

A sculpture commemorating Diana, Princess of Wales was unveiled yesterday at her former home in Kensington Palace Gardens to mark the 10th anniversary of her death.

The "Field of Flowers" consists of 10 golden dandelions, each more than 11ft tall and crowned with hundreds of flower heads that have been decorated with gold leaf by visitors to the palace over the summer.

The work was designed by the artist Sofie Layton and based on dandelion seed clocks, said to be a reminder of much missed loved ones and symbolic of the passing of time.
It was inspired by the cascade of flowers that lined the paths to Diana's former home in the aftermath of her death in 1997.

The installation is not permanent and will be on display until the end of the year, along with an exhibition - Diana: A Princess Remembered - which features photographs of the princess, including Mario Testino's famous portraits, film footage and a collection of frocks.

I remember the night well. I was kinda drunk and I came up from the washroom at the Halo(in London). The DJ was announcing something about some princess being killed. The music had stopped and no one was dancing. I rushed through the crowd looking for a dead drag queen on the dance floor. Later, at home, we stayed up watching Peter Mansbridge go over and over all the crash details.
