Toronto Mayor Ford Will Not March in Pride Parade

Mayor Rob Ford said on Wednesday he will not attend Toronto's annual Pride parade on July 3, breaking a tradition carried on by his predecessors.

Ford told reporters at a news conference on Wednesday morning that he will instead be joining his family at an annual Canada Day trip at his cottage in Huntsville.

He said he also plans to keep up with his cottage tradition in the future.

"It's been a long-standing Ford tradition to go to the cottage on the Canada Day weekend," spokesperson Adrienne Bata told ctvtoronto.ca.

Former mayor Mel Lastman started the tradition of marching in the parade in 1998.

Pride Toronto will run from June 24 to July 3, 2011.
