Oh My Eyes! : Brokeback Mountain Shown in Elementary School, Parents Sue

The Chicago Board of Education has been slapped with a lawsuit after a subsitute teacher allegedly showed Brokeback Mountain to an 8th grade class.

According to the lawsuit, the gay-themed movie tramatized 12-year-old Jessica Turner who claims she now suffers from psychological distress.

Brokeback Mountain, which won three Oscars and numerous other awards for its cast and director Ang Lee, is about a love affair between two cowboys played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Regardless of its gay theme, there are may racey scenes that probably shouldn't be viewed at school.

The lawsuit says that the substitute teacher knew what she was doing, becase she asked a student to close the classroom door at the West Side Chicago school and said "What happens in Ms. Buford's class stays in Ms. Buford's class."

Jessica Turner and her grandparents, Kenneth and LaVerne Richardson, are suing the Chicago Board of Education for nearly $500,000 in damages, according to the Associated Press. This isn't the first time Mr. and Mrs. Richardson have gone after the school board. Mr. Richardson complained to school administrators in the past about reading material that he felt was inappropriate because it included curse words. (
