2007 HERNDON MONUMENT CLIMB

The Herndon Monument Climb traditionally marks the end of the freshman, or Plebe, year at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
The class, numbering over 1000, has a final challenge: scale the Herndon Monument, and replace the Plebe beanie at the top with a Midshipman's cap.
The monument has been liberally coated with lard the evening before by upperclassmen, who also helpfully spray water on the plebes during the climb.

Holy Hannah, that's gay! 1000 men lubed-up, hosed-down, climbing all over each other to reach the top of a giant phallic monument to replace its hat?

...

There are no words. No words. They should have sent a poet. A gay poet.
