Lochte won the men's 200m backstroke gold medal at the world swimming championships in a new world record time of 1:54.32.
His teammate Aaron Peirsol, who held the previous world record, took the silver in 1:54.80 and Markus Rogan of Austria won the bronze in 1:56.02.
