Shameless Hunt for Jerome Hunt

A former Parker High School wrestler accused of rape was actually performing a nationally recognized wrestling move, according to court papers filed this week by his attorney.

Jerome Hunt, 17, pleaded not guilty to rape charges. He was arrested Aug. 18 after members of the Parker wrestling team accused him of committing second-degree rape and attempted rape during the team’s season, between November 2005 and March.

The acts occurred in the wrestling room at Parker High School before the start of practice and on a school bus as the team returned from a match, according to court documents.

Some of the plaintiffs, who are minors, said they were penetrated through their clothing in the rectum area with fingers. Others said such an act was attempted.

The act in question is called “skinning,” according to documents filed by Hunt’s lawyer, Mike Butler of Sioux Falls.

Dominick LaRocca, an assistant wrestling coach, told a grand jury that skinning is a legal move that is taught and used in South Dakota wrestling matches, according to Butler’s motion.

Hunt is a 2006 Class B state wrestling champion.
