Second Gay Bashing In Two Weeks In London, Ontario
On Saturday September 26, Erik Rozenski celebrated his 27th birthday and walking along Central Avenue with his boyfriend (name withheld) when they were targeted by two unidentified males who made homophobic remarks:
“I was walking home with my boyfriend on Central Ave. We were holding hands. We passed two guys who said ‘gross, they’re probably going to fuck each other tonight.’ We just brushed it off, didn’t reply, kept walking, they ran up behind us and punched both me and my boyfriend. My boyfriend managed to get away and get his cell phone out while the other guy hit me and knocked me on the ground, the moment my boyfriend made contact with 911 they took off running. Luckily there was a police officer in the area. They managed to catch the one that hit me, but the other got away. However, the one they caught gave the other guy away and he was eventually captured as well. I got a gash on my head, black eye, broken toe, minor scrapes and bruises."
Michael Kyle Gordon, 22, of Richmond Hill, was apprehended by London police and charged with assault.
Myros has been on the run from London police, but last Friday he was captured at Ontario’s London International Airport.

Zelda's Leaves Church Street -Toronto
Zelda’s, one of the anchor resto/bars in Toronto’s Church and Wellesley neighbourhood, has abruptly closed up shop and vamoosed in the night Sep 28.
A truck arrived at the location across from Xtra’s offices about 2am the morning of Sep 28 and cleaned the place out.
The marquee sign on the front of the restaurant reads, “Lease expired, new location 692 Yonge St opening soon.”
Zelda's opened in the Church Wellesley nighbourhood in 1997. 692 Yonge St is most recently the home of Arrabiata and formerly the home of long-time gay friendly joint, Living Well. (source)

Blake Hayes : Gay Bashed in Hell's Kitchen, NYPD Does Nothing
from Blake's website :
Two punches to the face. Thrown against a car, denting its body. Told we should die of AIDS. Is this what you should expect walking down 9th Ave with a couple friends?
I've walked the same block a million times. The place I call "home" is only 2 blocks away. I consider this neighborhood to be made up of friends, neighbors and allies. And yet tonight, it became a threatening, unaccepting place.
Walking down this usual block, a friend turned when a lit cigarette butt was thrown at him. "Keep moving, faggot."(keep reading)

HIV/AIDS Vaccine Shows Promise
A new AIDS vaccine tested on more than 16,000 volunteers in Thailand has protected a significant minority against infection, the first time any vaccine against the disease has even partly succeeded in a clinical trial.
Scientists said they were delighted but puzzled by the result. The vaccine — a combination of two genetically engineered vaccines, neither of which had worked before in humans — protected too few people to be declared an unqualified success. And the researchers do not know why it worked.(keep reading)

Navy Pressed for Answers on Abuse of Gay Sailor Joseph Rocha
Representative Joe Sestak has written a letter to the Secretary of the Navy requesting an inquiry into the promotion of a Chief Petty Officer who oversaw and participated in a two-year train of abuses against a gay sailor and other members of his unit.
Petty Officer Rocha was brutalized for more than two years at his base in Bahrain after unit mates suspected he is gay.
According to official military documents, Navy officials were fully aware of the role of Senior Chief Toussaint in perpetrating the violence. But they decided to promote him anyway.
The abuse included hog-tying Rocha to a chair and pushing him, while bound, into a dog kennel full of feces, as well as humiliating him by repeatedly forcing him to simulate oral sex with another man while on video.(keep reading)
