George Michael has announced his first tour of the United States in 17 years.
It will launch this summer and hit Chicago’s United Center on July 9.
He recently performed more than 80 concerts throughout Europe. The 25-date U.S. tour will kick off June 17 in San Diego and will showcase songs from his new album, “25,” due April 1.
Michael says he wants this tour to be a farewell, of sorts. ‘‘I don’t want to do anything on this scale again,’’ he told USA Today. ‘‘No more stadiums. I’d like to be the Tony Bennett for my generation.’’
Michael has appeared in cameos on the new ABC drama “Eli Stone.” On Thursday, he plays himself in a full-fledged role on the show.
Michael has received an advance from HarperCollins to write an autobiography. The Grammy-winning singer rose to stardom in the ’80s with Wham! before becoming tabloid fodder beginning with his arrest in 1998 for lewd conduct in a Los Angeles public restroom.
