The upcoming Sydney Mardi Gras is bringing out the gay in the boys from OZ. A play that will coincide with the international gay party destination even brings the gay out of the most controversial of figures, Jesus Christ. Naturally, religious leaders from all over Sydney were quick to condemn the Australian production of Corpus Christi, though it has yet to open.
"It is deliberately, not innocently, offensive and they're obviously having a laugh about it," commented the enraged Anglican Bishop of South Sydney, Robert Forsyth. "It's historical nonsense and I wouldn't want to go and see it. Life's too short."
The Bishop, along with the rest of Sydney's religious and conservative communities, feel that Corpus Christi's portrayal of Jesus Christ as a gay man crosses the line. Without stopping there, Terrence McNally's infamous hit depicts Jesus being seduced by Judas and performing the same-sex marriage of two apostles.
