Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who has played Harry Potter in all five movies based on the books so far, has bought a place of his own on Mercer Street, an apartment bought for nearly $4.3 million last month at the 13-story glass-walled condominium designed by the architect Jean Nouvel at 40 Mercer Street, just a few blocks away.
According to property records, the purchase was made by Gilmore Jacobs Ltd., the company set up by Mr. Radcliffe’s parents just before the release of the first Harry Potter movie in 2001, when he was 11. Since then, as the Harry Potter movies have grossed $4.4 billion to date, Gilmore Jacobs has also prospered, and was said by press accounts to be worth $40 million or more when Mr. Radcliffe turned 18 a few months ago.
The fifth-floor apartment has two bedrooms, two and a half baths and 1,843 square feet of space visible through floor-to-ceiling windows. Mr. Radcliffe is set to make his Broadway debut in September in a revival of Peter Shaffer’s “Equus,” a role he also had in the London production of the play.(keep reading)
