Jeremy Bloom Drafted by the Eagles

He's been a terror on the slopes. Now we'll see what he can do on the football fields of the NFL.

With their first pick of the fifth round the Eagles took one of the most talked about players in the draft yesterday, selecting wide receiver Jeremy Bloom.

Bloom was part of the United States Olympic Ski Team that competed in Salt Lake City in 2002 and at the 2006 Turin Games last February. Bloom, who grew up in Loveland, Colo., joined the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team at age 15 and was the No. 1 freestyler in the world by 19.

Bloom was also an explosive wide receiver and return specialist at the University of Colorado. He caught 24 passes for 458 yards, returned 25 kickoffs and returned 47 punts for a 13.5 average before the NCAA ruled him ineligible prior to his junior year for accepting endorsement money related to his skiing career.

Because of his accolades on snow and grass, Bloom received a good deal of pre-draft publicity. Although he's been away from the game a long time, his potential had most NFL teams intrigued
