One World Trade Center's Spire Is Illuminated

Thirteen years after the horrors of 9/11, New York took another step towards a new chapter in its history as the new World Trade Centre was lit up for the first time.

One World Trade Centre - a 104ft skyscraper which stands in the grounds where the Twin Towers collapsed - was illuminated with 300 red, white and blue LEDs.

New York's Port Authority says it can be seen up to 50miles away and is in discussions with experts to establish if it is the tallest structure in the US.

The building has taken more than seven years to build and estimated to have cost $3.9billion.(Mirror)
