Kevin & Scotty - Is It Really Over?

Why can't we have one gay relationship on TV that works?

Last week on 'Brothers & Sisters', Kevin ( played by Matthew Rhys) further screwed up his relationship with Scotty ( Luke MacFarlane) by openning his mouth. Lately, every time he talks he screws things up a little more.
Earlier in the show, Kevin insulted Scotty by saying that they were now equals & Scotty could buy lunch since he had won a large settlement & had just received the check. Well, Scotty didn't take it well.

Kevin: So. You have any plans for lunch?
Scotty: Lunch? Us?
Kevin: Yeah. I thought we could celebrate with lunch. You could even buy now that you're so flush. Since we're sort equals.
Scotty: Me having money makes us equals?
Scotty: Give the plaintiffs my regards, but tell them I don't want or need their money. It took me a long time to figure out how much I'm worth and how it has nothing to do with money or anything else that people can point to. And it took you, let's see, two months? To make me feel worthless. Congratulations.

Near the end of the show, Kevin calls to say how sorry his was for what he had said but no go.. Scotty is still pissed and that may be the last we see of Scotty on the show.

So now I'm pissed! - I wanted these two to go the distance or at least until the end of the first season.

Can we as gay men fuck up a relationship this fast?
